Why Sydney Drivers Get Paint Correction Done

Swirl marks and scratches do not just look bad under direct sunlight. They break down your clear coat over time. Once the clear coat goes, you are looking at respray costs, not polish costs. Paint correction stops that from happening.

If you are planning to sell, trade in or just want your car to hold its value, the condition of your paint is the first thing a buyer or dealer notices. A car with dull, swirl-marked paint loses thousands at resale. One that looks sharp commands better offers and sells faster.

For drivers across Parramatta, Auburn, Lidcombe and the Inner West, daily driving through stop-start traffic, tight car parks and automatic car washes takes a toll on paint year after year. Paint correction is how you reverse that damage and reset your car back to how it should look.

The Paint Correction Process

1

Wash and Decontamination

The car gets a thorough hand wash to remove loose dirt, then an iron remover and clay bar treatment to pull bonded contaminants out of the paint. Skipping this step means polishing grit into your clear coat, which makes defects worse. We do not skip it.

45 to 60 minutes
2

Paint Inspection and Depth Reading

We measure paint thickness across every panel using a digital gauge before touching the car with a machine. This tells us exactly how much correction is safe, which stages are needed, and flags any panels that have been previously resprayed and need careful handling.

20 to 30 minutes
3

Machine Polishing and Correction

Using dual-action and rotary polishers with the right compound and pad combination for each panel, we work section by section to cut out swirl marks, light scratches, water etching and oxidisation. Multi-stage jobs cycle through progressively finer compounds until the paint is clean.

3 to 8 hours depending on tier and vehicle size
4

Refinement and Gloss Enhancement

After cutting, each panel is refined with a finishing polish to maximise depth and gloss and remove any micro-marring left by the compound stage. This is what separates a result that looks good in photos from one that looks exceptional in real life.

1 to 2 hours
5

Final Inspection and Panel Wipe-Down

Every panel gets a final wipe with an IPA solution to strip any polish residue and reveal the true result. We inspect the whole car under detailing lights before handing it back. If something is not right, we fix it before you see the car.

Paint Correction FAQ

Pogi Detailing Co. offers three correction tiers, Single Stage, Two Stage and Multi-Stage, to suit different budgets and paint conditions. Pricing depends on the level of correction required, the size of your vehicle and the current state of the paint. Get a free quote and John Carlo will assess what your car actually needs before recommending anything.
A Single Stage correction typically takes three to five hours. A Two Stage correction on a mid-size car usually runs five to eight hours. Multi-Stage jobs on larger or heavily defected vehicles can take a full day or more. You will get a clear time estimate when you request your quote.
Paint correction results are permanent in the sense that the defects removed are genuinely gone, not filled or masked. How long your paint stays looking that way depends on how you wash and maintain it after the correction. Automatic car washes and poor wash technique will reintroduce swirl marks over time. Following up with a ceramic coating significantly extends how long the result holds.
Yes. The main thing that reintroduces swirl marks is poor wash technique, especially using automatic car washes, dirty sponges or wiping with a dry cloth. Switching to a proper two-bucket hand wash method is the single biggest thing you can do to keep the paint looking corrected. Adding a paint protection layer like a ceramic coating on top of the correction gives you significantly better protection going forward.
The correction work itself is guaranteed. If there is an issue with the result that is due to our process, John Carlo will sort it out. Warranty on any additional protection product applied after correction, such as a ceramic coating, depends on the specific product used and will be discussed with you at the time of service.
A cut and polish from a tyre shop or quick-detail service typically uses an aggressive compound to remove surface defects, then leaves the paint without a proper finishing stage. This can leave micro-marring and buffer trails that look worse under direct light. Machine polishing done properly cycles through multiple stages and compounds to both correct defects and refine the finish, so the result holds up in all lighting conditions.
Paint correction removes defects that are within the clear coat layer, which covers the majority of swirl marks, light scratches, water etching, oxidisation and hazing. Scratches that have gone through the clear coat and into the colour layer or primer cannot be polished out and typically require touch-up paint or a panel respray. John Carlo will assess your paint and be straight with you about what correction can and cannot fix before any work starts.
